ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

TENURE LINE POSITION IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

Description

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction invites applications for a tenure track position of Assistant or Associate Professor in Reading, or Curriculum and Instruction with an academic specialization in reading or a related field. The position will begin in the Fall 2010 semester, and will include duties at both the Commerce and Metroplex Campuses. Candidates must demonstrate a record of (or potential for) research, publication, and grant procurement. Primary responsibilities include: 1) teaching undergraduate, masters, and/or doctoral level courses; 2) mentoring and advising students; 3) chairing and serving on thesis and/or dissertation committees; 4) engaging in research and scholarly activities; 5) working with staff, faculty, and students to implement departmental programs; 6) providing service to the university, college, and department; and 7) procuring grants. 

University Background

Texas A&M University-Commerce is a senior public institution with an academic enrollment of approximately 9,000 students; almost half of which are graduate students. The main campus is located in Commerce, Texas which is 65 miles northeast of Dallas, TX. Other campuses located in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex include: Mesquite, Midlothian, Corsicana, and McKinney. The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. 

Department Information

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate programs prepare students for Early Childhood through Grade 12 Texas Teaching Certification. The department offers four masters programs in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Reading, and Secondary Education. A doctoral program in Supervision, Curriculum, & Instruction is also offered. 

Qualifications Required

  • An earned doctorate in Reading or Curriculum and Instruction with an academic specialization in Reading or a related field
  • Three years of certified public school teaching experience in grades K-8
  • Commitment to high quality teaching
  • Scholarly publication record or scholarly potential
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Dedication to high standards and student success
 Qualifications Preferred
  • University teaching experience
  • Experience in field-based teacher education
  • Service to the profession, university, and community
  • Experience securing research and/or  grants
  • Experience providing in-service training to adult learners
  • Competence in instructional applications of technology.
