$1.2 million grant to help teachers better serve English language learners

As a leader in teacher preparation, A&M-Commerce prides itself in preparing tomorrow’s teachers for the many challenges they will face in the classroom. Thanks to a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the university is tackling the daunting challenge of how to help teachers better serve English language learners (ELLs) in the region Co-principal investigators are Dr. Chris Green, Dr. Carole Walker, and Dr. Martha Foote. Peggy Gray is grant administrator.
¡Listo! Sharp and Ready: Strategies for ELL Student Success, aims to improve the ability of teachers to meet the needs of English Langauge Learner (ELL) students. ¡Listo! Will be a collaborative led by Texas A&M University-Commerce; two school districts, one large urban school district, Garland ISD, and a midsize district in a rural area, Greenville ISD; and the Texas Education Agency’s Region X Education Service Center that serves both districts.
