W. Ben King
My pride for the university started from a great legacy. My father, Weldon B. King, taught at “ET” for 23 years in business; my grandfather, Dr. A. C. Ferguson, was Dean and President. I was proud to have received my BS in ’65 with a double major in Math and Business. Being involved on campus was a priority, serving as President of Kappa Alpha Order and on the Sam Rayburn Memorial Student Center Board heading up the first Leadership Conference at the then ETSU. I continued my education at SMU pursuing an MBA in Business and Marketing. After graduating, I worked for JC Penney’s Regional Office in Dallas for six years before volunteering for the Air Force. I then attended Officers’ Trading School (OTS) in San Antonio and served in the reserves for six years. My career started in sales with two major NY Stock Exchange Companies and I was regional salesman of the year, always reaching quota and later being promoted to various sales management positions. In ‘85 I started a sales company in computers and trading. After the sale of the company, a new company was formed, LoneStar Capital Group, LLC. Today, LoneStar purchases and sells in international commodities trading which is still active and involved with five major representatives.
My wife Janice and I live in Bedford, TX. We have four grown children and nine grandchildren.
My wiliness and compassion is to still be involved at the University. “It is a lot of pride and fun to participate in activities with the University and I always look forward to Homecoming and seeing 'old' friends. I will always encourage others to come and enjoy Homecoming. It is great to be part of the Pride. Go Blue!”
