Oscar Faye Williams
Faye graduated from ETSU in 1973 with a double major in Biology and Sociology. Utilizing her scientific studies, she joined the staff of Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX as a Laboratory Technician. In 1977, after the birth of her son, Darrell, she was a stay at home mom for a couple of years. The yearning to get involved in City government called her back to the workforce. So instead of going back to the hospital scene, she ventured out and accepted various temporary assignments with the City of Dallas. She worked as a Secretary with Dallas’ Temporary Services in Human Development, Urban Planning and for Mayor Folsom. Because of her Sociology background, Faye was then assigned to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center as an Assessment Counselor and consequently accepted a permanent position there for the next four years. Still wanting to be more involved in city government, in 1984, Faye moved to the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Services. She stayed with this career path, moving from Code Inspector to Supervisor; to District Manager and Urban Rehabilitation Standards Board Administrator; and to her current position of Assistant Director for the Department of Code Compliance. Faye is a native Texan, with roots in Jacksonville, Port Arthur and Dallas. She is the proud “G Momma” of her granddaughter, BreShauna. She is a member of the historical St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas. She has been active in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., since her initiation at ETSU in 1971. She has served Delta as: 1985 National Convention Co-Coordinator, National Housing and Properties Committee member, Delta Habitat for Humanity South West Regional Coordinator, Dallas Alumnae Chapter President, Frederica Chase Dodd Education and Support, Inc. Founding Board Member, Theta Nu Chapter Advisor (A&M-Commerce) and Theta Nu Together Alumnae Association President. Professionally she is a member of the American Association of Code Enforcement and the Code Enforcement Association of Texas, where she has been President and currently is on the Board of Directors. She has also served on the ETSU Old School Alumni Association board.
