A&M Commerce Hires Chief Information Officer

Commerce, TEXAS—Texas A&M University-Commerce filled a newly created position of chief information officer. CIO Anwar Karim has a wide range of experience in information technology ranging from higher education institutions to the corporate sector.
Karim previously served as CIO at three different institutions, as well as director of information technology services, director of networks and computing and information systems faculty. He worked for a global Fortune 500 company as architect of business intelligence and knowledge management, manager of web and application engineering services, manager of IT infrastructure capacity management and manager of IT sourcing.
He earned a bachelor’s degree of business administration in mathematics from Southern Arkansas University, an M.B.A. in finance from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in information systems from DePaul University.
At his current post, Karim is excited to continue the growth and development of IT at A&M-Commerce. He is proactively looking for institutional dynamics and finding ways to adapt existing systems to advance organizational goals.
“I am in a position to directly and positively contribute toward the goals of A&M-Commerce,” Karim said. “Being the first CIO of an institution that is growing fast and striving to be a regional leader under President Dan Jones’ leadership is very exciting. This university is on the move. It is exciting to see the amount of activities ranging from increased student population, addition of new programs, hiring of new faculty, increase in research and scholarly activities, etc. that are happening on the campus.”
