Jordan McCarty Named to Bush Fellows Program
Commerce, TX – Texas A&M University-Commerce senior Jordan McCarty has attained many achievements during her college career, her most recent success being named a Bush Fellow, a program associated with the Bush School of Government & Public Service of Texas A&M University.
McCarty is a member of the Honors College and the university soccer team, approaching graduation in December. McCarty said she heard about the Bush Fellows Program from Dr. Raymond Green, Dean of the Honors College, and Dr. Eric Gruver, Director of Honors Advising, sparking her interest in the institution.
“I knew very little about the program, only hearing what Dr. Gruver and Dr. Green had mentioned to me, but I took it upon myself to research and find out important information pertaining to the school,” she said. “I knew that it was an incredible opportunity, and that the Bush name alone on the name of the school carried substantial significance.”
The Bush Fellows Program offers “graduate public service professional opportunities to qualified students in the Texas A&M University System,” according to its overview description. Criteria for acceptance into the program consist of academic achievement, senior standing, interest in obtaining a graduate degree, particularly in public service or international affairs and evident leadership skills. Overall, the Bush School is ranked in the top 13 percent for Public Affairs Programs by the U.S. News & World Report, making acceptance a prestigious honor for its members.
Green, the A&M-Commerce liaison with the Bush School, nominated McCarty for the Bush Fellows program after watching her exude the qualities of a Fellow throughout her college education.
“Although it is difficult to not feel as I’m playing favorites by supporting Jordan’s application for the Bush Fellows program, she is perfectly suited for the program,” Green said. “Her career goals align precisely with the graduate curriculum at the Bush School of Government & Public Service. She has demonstrated leadership, maturity and poise while being an exemplary student.”
After being nominated by Green, McCarty applied to the program and received acceptance, saying she was “shocked, but extremely excited.” McCarty now awaits further acceptance into the Bush School for the upcoming academic year. For more information on the Bush Fellows program, contact Dr. Ray Green at email@example.com.
