Library Celebrated Expansion of Bistro
By Sydni Walker
COMMERCE, TX—Gee Library at Texas A&M University-Commerce is celebrating the expansion of the Bistro coffee shop by throwing a western-themed party on November 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Everyone should come out and celebrate,” said Sue Weatherbee, access services manager at the library and coordinator of the event. “There will be great door prizes, the chance to win an iPOD Touch by entering the Texas landmarks trivia contest, and grilled burgers, chips and drinks available for purchase or by using your meal plan.”
The Bistro expansion was completed this summer in response to requests from students. In Spring 2012, the library administered the LibQual survey to determine what patrons wanted from the library, and expanded study and seating space was a major request. The new Bistro features booths seating for groups and a laptop bar with charging stations.
“Students needed a social computing area, where they can work in groups, use their laptops and have group conversations,” said Weatherbee. “Many times students stop by here for a coffee and a snack in between classes.”
The Bistro expanded from 24 to 80 seats and from 860 square feet to 2008 sq feet. Every booth has electrical outlets built into the bottom so students can plug in their laptops or charge their phones. Wireless access, ATM and electronic device charging stations are available. The expansion was cooperatively funded by the Library and Student Services Fees.
Students, faculty, staff and the community are welcome to the celebration and western wear is encouraged.
