Do you want to make a difference in the lives of others? Do you possess a rich knowledge base? Are you caring, supportive, and excited about learning? Are you looking for a career change?
Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Alternative Certification Program is introducing a new route to teacher certification. Beginning in the fall of 2012 our program is officially changing to AMTRAC (A&M-Commerce Teacher Route to Alternative Certification). This program will offer all our course work online. There will be 5 graduate level courses (15 hours) required (exception is SPED certification) that can be integrated into a Master's of Science in the Art of Teaching degree plan. Along with the 5 courses students will be required to attend 5 Saturday face-to-face workshops where they will be introduced to additional training and will be able to interact with other AC students, AC Program Staff, instructors and presenters as they view model teaching first hand as well as gain valuable knowledge and experience towards classroom teaching.

"What is Alternative Certification?" What is Alternative Certification(AC)?
Alternative certification is a route to obtaining teacher certification for those individuals who have already obtained a bachelor’s degree, but who did not choose teacher certification as a part of his/her primary degree path. Provided that you meet program admission criteria, this route will enable you to acquire pre-employment training, pursue and accept a (paid) teaching position, and complete full state certification training and testing requirements while teaching on a probationary certificate.
