The Junto (jun´-to) is an organization for the professional development, support, and socialization of Lit/Lang graduate students and faculty members. We take our name from a reading and writing critique group which the young Ben Franklin founded in the eighteenth century. Meetings usually take place three times a semester, usually at the home of a graduate student or faculty member, and are an opportunity for relaxing, socializing, and “demystifying” the English and language the profession.
Some of our past program activities have included:
- Developing ideas for conference papers, preparing abstracts, and practicing the delivery of the papers
- Workshopping class papers, essays for potential publication, and thesis/dissertation chapters
- Writing and evaluating Curriculum Vitae
- Discussing the job search process
