For the preparation of college and high school teachers of Spanish and those who want to pursue a Ph.D., Texas A&M University-Commerce offers the Master of Arts in Spanish. We offer classes to prepare students for their teaching career. Some of the classes we offer include: Foreign Language Methodology, Advanced Writing and Children’s Literature.
For students who are interested in obtaining the eighteen credit hours required to teach at the college level, we offer a variety of elective classes in linguistics and literature courses. A number of our students have completed this requirement and now have successful careers as language instructors in colleges, universities and community colleges.
For the preparation of students who want to pursue a Ph.D., our program introduces a variety of courses in literature and linguistics emphasizing their theoretical and historical framework. In addition to methodology courses, we offer a variety of survey courses of Spanish and Latin American literature and cinema.
Specific requirements and procedures for graduate work and applications for assistantships may be obtained from the Head of the Department or the Director of Graduate Studies.
