Allan Goodwin is the Associate Director of Bands at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Mr. Goodwin additionally serves as director of the “Pride” Marching Band and principal conductor of the Symphonic and Concert Bands.
Prior to accepting this position, Mr. Goodwin proudly served for ten years as Director of Bands at Sachse High School in the Garland Independent School District. As the charter director of the Mustang Band, Mr. Goodwin oversaw the growth of the program from it’s initial 45 members to a 200-member organization consisting of a highly competitive marching band, four concert ensembles, two jazz bands, percussion ensembles, chamber ensembles and a successful colorguard and winterguard. Ensembles under Mr. Goodwin’s direction have been consistently successful in Texas University Interscholastic League and other regional and invitational events. Mr. Goodwin has also been part of the staff at Naaman Forest High School, and served as Supervisor of Instrumental Music and Director of Bands for the Ponca City Public School System, in North Central Oklahoma.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Goodwin holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas College of Music. His Master of Music degree in Music Education and Conducting was earned at the University of Tulsa’s Henry Kendall College of Music, under the tutelage of Gerald Siverson and Ken Grass. While at TU, Mr. Goodwin served as a director, drill designer and arranger for the university’s “Sound of the Golden Hurricane” Marching Band, coordinator of athletic bands, conductor of the Concert Band and brass choir, and as an instructor in brass pedagogy.
Mr. Goodwin is active as an arranger, program coordinator, clinician, and adjudicator for marching bands throughout the Southwest. He has been an instructor, recruiter and caption coordinator for the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, from Denver, Colorado, Black Gold Drum and Bugle Corps, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Capital Regiment, from Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Goodwin resides in Fate, Texas, with his wife, Julie, and their sons, Glenn and Collin.
