Funding by the National Science Foundation
This program is funded by the National Science Foundation, which is currently interested in promoting the transfer of students from community colleges to universities, especially students majoring in the fields of science or engineering. An early research experience is believed to be very valuable in the progress of students toward careers in technical disciplines. The program participants will be involved as a group in an intense series of research training workshops as well as field trips and recreational excursions. The research experience will certainly be a valuable credential for any student planning a career in Chemistry, Physics or related discipline.
Each of the ten participants will receive a stipend of $4000 in addition to paid room and board in the Lion Pride Apartments (next door to the Science Building and the Campus Recreation Center), paid tuition and fees for college credits, research supplies, and travel expenses. The total package has a value of about $6000.
