Clinical Training
Master's Program

Clinical Sequence:

Practicum (COUN 551) - 3 hrs
Internship I (COUN 552) - 3 hrs
Internship II (COUN 552) - 3 hrs

Students should contact their assigned faculty advisors to discuss course pre-requisites, timing, field placement options, and clinical training; procedures for clinical sequence courses. A student must be fully admitted to the Department of Counseling program before enrolling in Practicum (COUN 551). Contact the Department office if you do not know your admission status.

Students apply for clinical courses the semester prior to the semester in which they plan to take that clinical course. Clinical course applications are only available ONLINE from this website. Applications for clinical courses are available early in each semester; deadlines for applications are approximately 3 weeks later. Be sure to check application forms and the Department of Counseling Calendar for deadlines and dates. Application deadlines are firm. This allows the field placement process to be completed in a timely manner. Late or incomplete applications are NOT guaranteed consideration.

Every student enrolling in Practicum must complete the online Practicum Orientation prior to beginning the course.

Every student enrolling in Internship must complete the online Internship Orientation prior to beginning the course.

School Counseling Track Students:
Prior to applying for field placement you may discuss with your principal or district Guidance Coordinator the possibility of completing your field placement within your own school or district. However, your placement will not be final until it has been approved by the Department's Director of Training & Placement.

Community Counseling Track Students
(and school counseling students seeking a community placement):
Prior to applying for field placement you should review the Field Site List, which contains descriptions and information about frequently used community field sites. All sites in the Field Site List have been approved by the Department of Counseling and are familiar with our standards and requirements.
