Steps to Completing
the Master's Degree Program
Step 1: Apply to and be accepted by the Texas A&M - Commerce Graduate School for admission as a graduate student.
Step 2 : Apply to and be accepted by the Department of Counseling.
Once you have received notice of your initial acceptance into the program:
Step 3: Consult with a departmental advisor regarding course sequencing and complete a degree plan. Students should maintain regular contact with their advisor and consult this website for updates in schedules and courses.
Step 4: Complete the introductory courses COUN 501, COUN 510, COUN 528, and COUN 516 with a minimum B grade as early in the program as possible. On satisfactory completion of COUN 516 (pre-practicum), students will acquire Admission to Candidacy status and may continue the clinical sequence by enrolling in practicum (COUN 551).
Step 5: Complete coursework maintaining a 3.0 grade point average on all graduate work at Texas A&M - Commerce. This includes the clinical sequence of practicum (1 semester) and internship (2 semesters).
NOTE: Students must complete a formal application process the semester before enrolling in practicum and internship classes. Check the website and/or the DOC office for dates and deadlines.
Step 6: Pass the Masters Comprehensive Examination in the last semester of the program. Students often take the Masters Comprehensive Examination during their Internship semester. Check this website and the Department of Counseling office for dates and deadlines for taking the Masters Comprehensive Examination.
Step 7: GRADUATION ! ! ! !
