Position Title:Costume Shop Supervisor/Lead Designer

Purpose of Position
Responsible for costume design for two of the productions within the University Playhouse‚??s main season. Will also manage and maintain the University Playhouse‚??s costume shop, including the costume inventory and all appropriate machines and equipment. Will also aid in the supervision and on the job training of the Theatre Division‚??s students during practicum and production hours.
- Design costumes for two of the productions within the University Playhouse’s main season. Production research, design research, costume design, procurement of needed materials pattern design, costume assembly and maintenance.
- Manages and maintains the Costume Shop. Maintains the costuming equipment and costume inventory. Aides other costume designers within the Theatre Division with their designs and employ a smooth transition between productions.
- Supervises and aides in the on the job training of the theatre practicum students. Ensures that theatre students are using the equipment properly (instructing those who do not know), show student proper theatre designer decorum and practices.
Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.
Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular unit or function for which the person is responsible. Consideration will be given on a case by case basis and reassignment of marginal duties will be made when appropriate.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Bachelor‚??s degree with three plus (3+) ears experience in Costumed Design and Technology. MS or MA in Costume Design and Technology preferred. Five plus (5+) years experience in Costuming field preferred. Knowledge of United State Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), costume history, costume design and application, thorough understanding of costuming techniques, thorough understanding of theatrical terms and practices. Managerial skills and experience.
