Position Title:Sign Language Interpreter

Reports To:Coordinator of Disability Resources and Services
Purpose of Position
Perform sign language interpretation for hearing impaired student/prospective students including lectures or other classroom instruction, meetings, registration, testing, tutoring, counseling, etc. In addition to interpreting duties, SDRS office duties will be assigned as needed (i.e. budget administration, student outreach/intakes, alternate text reproduction, etc.).
- Classroom interpreting (up to 30 hours per week)
- Assist in day to day operation of Student Disability Resources and Services operation (up to 10 hours per week).
Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.
Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular unit or function for which the person is responsible. Consideration will be given on a case by case basis and reassignment of marginal duties will be made when appropriate.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Requires high school diploma or equivalent, Associate Degree preferred. Proficiency in various sign systems including ASL, PSE and SEE; prior college level interpreting experience across a variety of subjects/levels. Level one (1) interpreter certification. Excellent oral and written communication skills; activate, manage and monitor budget expenditures and reports; ability to problem solve; knowledge of various computer applications. Follow the Interpreting Code of Ethics as established by the Division for Assistive and Rehabilitative Services; perform other office/campus duties as assigned. Level II interpreter certification preferred. Flexibility with work schedule; ability to learn and take on new tasks preferred.
Supervision of Personnel
Could supervise other interpreters on temporary contracts.
